A Rant About Water

I’m not happy about it, but I can understand the airlines charging for soda, juice, coffee and tea. Being trapped on a plane for a few hours it’s nice to be able to sip one of these beverages, but perhaps it is a frill.

But, water? A charge for water? No, I don’t like that at all. Being thirsty and dehydrated in a plane and having to buy water is not acceptable. And, please, don’t compare it to a sporting event where you have to buy a bottle of water. Public places have public free available water. I’m thirsty, I can walk to the water fountain.

Can I do that on a plane? No.

Until I can walk to that free and available water fountain… don’t charge passengers, trapped in a plane for water.

What do you think?

I’m still unhappy about cramped conditions. Make the seat area more spacious and I’m okay with bringing my own water.

You can always open the exit doors and put an empty cup out to snare some water.

I’m not too disturbed about people having to buy bottled water on a plane because I think they brought it on themselves. What marketing genius twenty five years ago would ever have believed you could sell water to the American public? Of course, I believe water should be available on a flight at no charge and I expect it will be if one asks for it in a polite, but demanding fashion. But, all those people who have been buying bottled water at a higher price than they are paying for gasoline and are now complaining about it – sorry, you established the standard. Don’t cry about it now.

I wouldn’t have a problem with it if we could bring our own water bottles from home and not have to buy any either on the plane or at the airport. But that lovely new rule about no liquids puts a stop to that.

I do have a tip about water in airports — carry an empty plastic bottle through security, then fill it up once you’re past screening from one of the free public water fountains.

Still doesn’t change my fury about water on planes — there isn’t any free water fountains to fill up my plastic bottle.
